Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Mary Agnes O’Leary, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020, surrounded by her family. Daughter of Louis and Marie Eisler, Mary was born and raised in Southern California. She is a Glendora High School graduate, attended Citrus College to study textile design and was a California Junior Miss and Miss Glendora Pageant Finalist. She married Robert, her husband of 57 years, in 1963 at Holy Angels Church in Arcadia. They settled in Arcadia and then Palos Verdes to raise their two daughters Kathy and Kellie. Mary was active in school and philanthropy activities that her daughters were involved in. Mary was a Patroness of the Palos Verdes Assembly, a volunteer with Las Madrecitas and the Social Service Auxiliary, member of Palos Verdes Golf Club where both daughters celebrated their wedding receptions, and a longtime parishioner of St. John Fisher Catholic Church. Mary loved attending school events for her grandchildren and was proud to support them at Santa Catalina School in Monterey, Santa Clara University, Palos Verdes High School and Silver Spur Elementary.
Mary is survived by her husband, Robert, daughter, Kathy Gibbs and son-in-law Matthew Gibbs II of Monterey, CA, daughter Kellie Stender and son-in-law Todd Stender of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, sister Eve Ann Petranek and sister Lorie Kay and Brother-in-law Bill Kay. Mary was a devoted grandmother to 4 grandchildren, Kiley Gibbs, Matthew Gibbs III, Danny Stender and Kara Stender. Plus, a loving aunt to 3 nephews , 1 niece, 4 great-nephews and 1 great-niece. Faith and family meant most in her life and Mary cherished every moment with her loved ones.
A private family service for Mary was held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. Mary will be laid to rest alongside her father, mother and relatives at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Culver City.
